I remember one of the trip’s highlights was when Jack and his new wife met my family at Sloppy Joe’s in Key West, one of his father’s favorite watering holes and where his picture is likely still hung on a wall in the bar. On one of the days off of filming, Jack told me that he had visited his old family home and on the tour the guide was amazed to hear Jack tell his wife that this was his room when he was a kid.
Fly Fishing in the Florida Keys
The TDE story begins and ends in Key West, Florida where the mad General is confronted by the twin dolphins while the President fly fishes for bonefish. In real-life, I produced a film starring Jack Hemingway fly fishing for tarpon in the Florida Keys. And yes his accomplished guide was a girl that docked her boat in a canal at the back of her house!
